As the restaurant/hospitality industry evolves in an ever-changing environment of workplace legislation, it’s become necessary for our company to adjust our model for tipping and compensation. In evaluating these changes, our primary considerations were to take care of our employees and their compensation, our guests and their dining experience and the fiscal health of our company. Finding an adequate balance was not easy.
Given that much of the industry has and is adjusting to this environment, we were able to research and learn what’s working and what’s not. Our research clearly indicated that a fixed 20% service charge model along with the addition of an “Additional Gratuity” option was determined to be the best solution to meet the primary considerationsstated above.
